Polymer tantalum capacitor with the highest working voltage of 35V(*1) has launched.

 

 

SANYO announced that a new product, a tantalum electrolytic capacitor with conductive polymer cathode of the highest working voltage of 35V(*1), which is suitable for ultraslim LCD monitors, has been added to TQC series of POSCAP family. It has achieved the highest voltage of 35 V while maintaining the TQC series features: low-profile and low-ESR. This product will be helpful for designing ultraslim LCD TVs.

*1 Based on an independent survey of tantalum capacitor with conductive polymer cathode, it has the highest voltage of 35V as of Feb. 2009.

1. Overviews

Our tantalum capacitor with conductive polymer (POSCAP TQC series) has been mainly used for DC power circuits of slim monitors for laptops, PCS, and LCD TVs, featuring high voltage, low ESR and low profile.

Recently, a higher voltage proof has been required for capacitors at power circuit of LED back light type. This type expands for LCD monitors such as LCD TVs for them to have thinner shapes and longer lives. To satisfy this requirement, we have greatly improved the voltage proof from 25 V up to 35 V without adjusting the size by reviewing a material (tantalum anode) and manufacturing forming process of conductive polymer anode.

2. Features

1. Highest working voltage 35V solves the audible noise problems of LCD monitors.

This new product provides highest voltage of 35V for tantalum capacitor with conductive polymer cathode. Voltage proof has expanded more compared with our conventional products of maximum 25V, therefore, it will be usable for wider voltage range of power circuits.

Generally, LED back light type LCD power line voltage will have its panel an inch higher because of the increase in the numbers of LEDs. The conventional version, 25V capacitor has a limited maximum 3-5 pieces of series connected LEDs, which is now applicable to a maximum 8 pieces in the new 35V product.

Furthermore, the tantalum capacitor with conductive polymer has more stable characteristics compared to MLCC. Though MLCC is generally used for LCD monitor power circuits and it is unstable because its capacitance changes in accordance with ambient temperature, or applied voltage. It also emits an audible noise (piezoelectric effect) from ripple voltage of its line. But with tantalum caps, these problems never happen. Other advantages of tantalum caps include the reduction of the number of parts and the flexibility of parts' layout.

 
2. Low profile 2.0mm maximum will be helpful to design ultraslim LCD monitors

This new product accepts surface mounting process, and its height is 2.0mm maximum, which is thinner than the same range of aluminum electrolytic capacitors. It is suitable for designing thinner trend devices such as LCD TVs.

 
3. Halogen free-compliant environmental responsive design

Recently, Major several electronics makers have been removing materials including halogens, which are concerned about relations with dioxin generation. We, SANYO, have been promoting to transit materials into not only RoHS-complient substances but also raw materials that contain no halogens. Of course, we have adopted the same policy for this new product.
